How to keep your cash book
The cash book shows cash in and out with a running balance; the bank book does the same for bank and UPI. Most entries arrive by themselves from your bills, receipts and expenses.
Step by step
- Add your business once. In My data, so the books print with your details.
- Enter your opening cash. In Cash and bank books tap Cash in hand on the start date, type the cash you counted and the date. On the Bank book tab the same button sets the bank balance.
- Record money as it moves. Money received, Money paid, Expense. Cash sales, receipts, vouchers and expenses saved anywhere appear by themselves.
- Note cash taken to the bank. Cash and bank transfer: neither income nor expense.
- Read the books. Cash book, Bank book, Day book; pick the dates at the top.
- Print or share. Print, PDF, or CSV for Excel.
Worked example
Opening cash 1 November ₹5,000. Cash sales ₹12,400, rent paid ₹8,000, tea ₹300, deposit in bank ₹6,000. Closing cash ₹3,100. Count the drawer: if it has ₹3,000, ₹100 is missing; find the entry.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Cash goes below zero. An opening balance or a cash receipt is missing.
